Genesis 19 

In Genesis 18 Abraham prayed for the city of Sodom—that God would spare the city if only ten [faithful people] [could] be found there (verse 32).  God agreed, but chapter 19 reveals the sad truth about the city of Sodom 
 

1. The subject matter of Genesis 19 might at first seem to be out of place in a history of Abraham’s descendants.  What good reason can you see why God saw fit to include it? 
   
    
2. What activity of Lot is indicated in the opening verses of the chapter? 
   
    
3. Compare the sin of homosexuality with what God had in mind when he gave mankind his gifts of sex and marriage. 
   
    
4. St. Paul wrote, Bad company corrupts good character (1 Corinthians 15:33).  How do verses 1, 7, 8, 14, 16, and 20 indicate that faithful Lot, living among the residents of Sodom , was being weakened and corrupted?  What is the lesson for us? 
   
    
5. What do you see in Lot ’s behavior in this chapter that you like?  That does not impress you? 
   
    
6. On the basis of verses 1-8, describe Lot ’s spiritual condition.  How had he failed the men of Sodom ? 
   
    
7. Why did Lot hesitate to leave the condemned city of Sodom ?
